Lieven Van Waes

Mr. Van Waes grew up on a small cattle farm in the north of Belgium and graduated as Master in bio-science engineering.
He started his professional career in 2000 at the Federal Government where he initially worked on the former EU CAP suckler cow and bull aid schemes.
In 2005 he was appointed as project manager for the CAP basic payment entitlements, followed later by the coordination of area-based payment schemes in the framework of the EU Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS).
Between 2014 to 2021 he temporally left the administration to become counselor at the cabinet of the Flemish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development.
Nowadays he is senior staff member at the Secretary General of the Flemish Agency for Agriculture and Fisheries, mainly dealing with EU and regional agriculture policies.
